Anthony Heagerty is Professor of Medicine and Head of the Cardiovascular and Endocrine Sciences Research Division at the School of Medicine at the University of Manchester.
Prof. Heagerty has a clinical interest in cardiovascular disease and a research programme that looks at various aspects of the vascular biology of smooth muscle structure and function, with particular emphasis on small blood vessels and effects of disease states such as diabetes and hypertension on small arteries.
He is currently President of the International Society of Hypertension, a member of the European Society of Hypertension and Immediate Past-President of the European Society of Hypertension, a Fellow of the American Heart Association, an International Fellow of the High Blood Pressure Council of the American Heart Society, a member of the International Society of Hypertension and an elected member of Council of the Royal College of Physicians.
He has published more than 300 papers in peerreviewed journals. For his research contributions to understanding the pathogenesis of hypertension, Professor Heagerty received the Björn Folkow Award from the European Society of Hypertension in 2006.
